Here are a few pieces of information that you may find useful when your child starts nursery.
If you have further questions or need more information please do not hesitate to contact Michele Dann (Nursery Manager) on +44 75445 62587
Your child’s ‘Keyworker’ will observe your child’s skills and interests to develop a full picture of their learning style, current interests, areas of strength and identify where extra support is needed.
A Learning Journey book is used to record and celebrate your child’s interests and progress in the nursery. We use this information to create a stimulating learning environment, with well planned focussed activities and high-quality interactions from our practitioners. (Please see our Keyworker Policy)
Our partnerships with you are extremely important to us and we value sharing information with daily verbal feedback.
We use Wow sheets, ‘New interests or achievements at home’ and interactive learning journals for you to add photos and any special activities/interests/events from home.
We regard snack and meal times an important part of our day, a social time when children and adults eat together. Snacks consist of a nutritious variety of fruits, vegetables, rice cakes, pitta bread and cheese (menus are displayed on the Parents Notice Board).
Please ensure you have provided us with any special dietary needs when completing your child’s application forms.
Children staying for lunch need to bring:
- a packed lunch consisting of healthy and nutritious food. Please avoid sugary snacks/ drinks and no chocolate/sweets. - Please place an ice pack inside as we have limited fridge space.
- We suggest no more than 4 to 5 items.
- If including crisps place a small amount into a pot/small bag. - Grapes and cherry tomatoes MUST be cut into quarters to save risk of choking.
As some children have severe allergies, we follow a ‘NO NUT POLICY.’ Please do not pack any nuts/peanut butter etc.
Water is available throughout the day and fresh milk is available on the snack table.
Please tell us about your child’s dietary needs and we will ensure these are met.
Please provide your child with slippers or plimsolls to change into when inside.
Children are encouraged to change into outdoor shoes independently, therefore please help by providing footwear they can undo/do up themselves, e.g. Velcro.
In wet weather please provide wellington boots and water-proof coats/all-in-ones if possible.
PLEASE CLEARLY NAME ALL FOOTWEAR - COATS AND BAGS - INCLUDING LUNCH BAGS AND DRINKS BOTTLES
If your child has had an accident before their arrival at nursery and have a cut/bruise you must inform a member of staff so they may complete a ‘Existing Injuries / Marks Record Form.
Despite extensive risk analyses and all efforts to remove hazards, accidents can happen.
All such incidents are recorded, monitored and reported back to the parent/carer, who will be asked to sign an accident form.
Where an accident is of a serious nature we will contact the parent/carer or the emergency contact to advise them of what has happened and what action is being taken. Where necessary we will contact the child’s doctor or the emergency services.
All visitors to the nursery are greeted by a member of staff and when staying for a short time must sign the ‘visitors’ book.
Only those who are pre-authorised to collect their child from nursery will be allowed to do so, unless approval is given by the parent/carer of which they must be given your chosen ‘Password'.
Please ensure staff have recorded your chosen password.
Parents/carers MUST leave emergency numbers where they can be contacted see ‘Application form’.
Safeguarding children in our care is of paramount importance to us.
All children have the right to grow up in a safe, secure and nurturing environment and should feel comfortable that their individual needs will be met and not live in fear of harm or neglect.
More detailed information can be found in our Child protection/Safeguarding children policies and procedures. However, we would like to draw your attention to our responsibilities within this:
1. All children have a right to be safe no matter who they are or what their circumstances.
2.Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility.
3. We all need to listen to children even though we may not always be comfortable with what we hear. (SCB Keeping Children Safe Leaflet www.cornwall.gov.uk)
If you have concerns about a child, please speak to our Designated Safeguarding lead Michele Dann or Amanda Lorrimer-Roberts. You may also contact: Multi-Agency Referral Unit (MARU) 0300 1231 116 or Cornwall Children’s Social Care out of hours 01208 251300
As the nursery is run within Hayle Methodist Church, the nursery may have to close for unforeseen events such as funerals - we hope to give you at least 2 weeks notice.
In adverse weather conditions such as heavy snow we will notify you immediately of closure to maintain the safety of everyone - children/parents and staff.
Staff sickness - if staff should suddenly fall ill where staff:child ratios cannot be met unfortunately we will need to close the nursery. We hope to give as much notice as possible.
The adjoining hall is used as the local Polling Station where we will need to close for the entire day - you will be notified in advance.

Parent Carers Cornwall believes parents are key to improving the life chances of children with special educational needs and that all parents should be well informed and well supported with accurate and timely advice. We aim to work in a way that recognises the impact on the whole family and empower and enable parent carers to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Butterflies Montessori Nursery opened in April 2015.
We had our first Ofsted Inspection in 2017, followed by a second inspection in January 2023.
In April 2023 we relocated Butterflies to Hayle Methodist church and was given a new Ofsted Registration Number: EY2725982 appearing to be a new nursery.
For our last Ofsted report EY 484986 held at Angarrack Community Centre - Jan 2023 please click here.
Please note at the bottom of the information relating to our new address it states: At the same postcode ‘Montessori Nursery’ Closed. We wish to reassure you this nursery has no connection with Butterflies Montessori, and Ofsted carried out a thorough registration inspection before granting us permission to open at this location.
Our pledge to you:
We are the same team of dedicated staff, passionate in providing high quality Montessori practice. We are now operating within a brighter and more central location in Hayle, with parking and an amazing garden.
Our relocation provides an exciting and stimulating indoor and outdoor environment where children have more opportunities to explore, learn and be physically active. It offers them freedom of movement, fun and supports every aspect of their development.
Please look at our ‘Curriculum' page to see our children having fun while they explore, learn through curiosity and build wonderful friendships.
